About
West Humber is a dynamic secondary school that fosters active
learning through interaction and involvement. Students and staff
are most proud of the school culture. The focus is on treating
each other with respect and dignity. The caring and supportive
environment allows students to feel at home while at school and
to do their best as they prepare for the world ahead. The school
has a well-established, positive and active partnership with the
community. Their mission statement is: "WE CARE". Their goal is to
equip every student with the academic and social skills needed to
be successful, to understand the value of lifelong learning, to
develop healthy interpersonal relationships and to be prepared for
a rapidly changing workplace.
West Humber's regular and Enriched Math, Science, Technology (MST) programs allow for the development of academic skills that lead to student success in university, college, apprenticeship or employment. Their comprehensive curricula prepares students for a changing world by developing skills in problem solving, leadership, critical and creative thinking, and new technologies, while adapting to social change and promoting a healthy lifestyle. High level academic programming has led their graduates to success at university and college in math, science, business, technology, world studies, humanities, the arts and international languages.
It is the positive, collaborative and caring environment that sets us apart. The staff and students have a strong sense of community and tradition. The school uniform identifies students as members of the school community and sets a professional tone within the school. Because West Humber is a composite school, the school is able to offer the students a variety of academic, athletic and co-curricular programs where they can develop the necessary skills to be a positive and active citizen in their community. The West Humber Community extends itself to include a variety of local organizations which work together to offer students additional resources and support as they pursue post-secondary education, apprenticeship or employment. Partnerships with Pathways to Education, Braeburn Community Centre and Microskills offer a wide variety of tutoring and mentoring programs. As well, First Generation Project with Humber College and Newcomer Services for Youth assist their newly immigrated students to become a part of the community.
